Betsy Kwiatkowski Scores to Give LC Women’s Soccer 1-0 win over Roanoke
Will host Four-Team Sectional Next Weekend

SALEM, VA - Freshman forward Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) scored early in the second half to lift the Lynchburg College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Roanoke College Sunday evening in an NCAA Division III Championship Second Round Game.

The first half was scoreless, with Maroon keeper Erin Hanson making three saves to thwart the Hornets' 8-1 edge in shots. Kwiatkowski eluded several Maroon defenders along the end line and chipped the ball past the goalie from close range at the 51:52 mark to net the game's only goal.

The Hornets out-shot Roanoke 14-11, while the Maroons held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Jackie Bader (Fort Washington, MD/Bishop Ireton) made six stops for LC, while Hanson also made six saves. A Roanoke midfielder received a red card at 25:58 in the first half, and the Maroons (18-4-1) had to compete a player down the remainder of the contest.

The Hornets (18-3-3) will host a four-team sectional next weekend, facing Emory University (GA) in a round of 16 on a day and time to be determined. Washington (MO) and the College of New Jersey will square off in the other game on LC's Shellenberger Field. The winner of the Lynchburg sectional will compete in the NCAA Division III Final Four, November 23-24 in Orlando, FL at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.
