Six Hornets Honored on All-ODAC Women’s Soccer Team
Lauren Askey Named Scholar-Athlete; Betsy Kwiatkowski Rookie of the Year

         SALEM, VASix Lynchburg College players were honored Wednesday with the release of the 2007 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women’s Soccer team.

         Senior Lauren Askey (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) was named the conference’s Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) earned Rookie of the Year honors. The two earned spots on the first team.

         Askey, a defender, recently earned first-team CoSIDA All-District College Division honors. She boasts a 3.96 cumulative GPA with a major in athletic training, and was also the ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2006. Askey is a four-time first-team All-ODAC selection. Kwiatkowski, a forward, led the conference with 20 goals and 50 points. She also tied for the top spot with 10 assists and had six game-winning goals.

  Senior forward Sara Butsavage (Virginia Beach, VA/First Colonial), junior midfielder Melissa Miller (Waretown, NJ/Southern Regional), sophomore midfielder Ashley Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) and sophomore defender Katelyn LeRiche (Guilford, CT/Guilford) all were named to the second team.

 Washington & Lee University’s Anne Van Devender was voted the Player of the Year while Phil Benne from Roanoke College was the Coach of the Year.
