Name: Karen E. Bucklew Class: SeniorMajor: Business Administration and Sociology with an emphasis in Criminology
"I got involved in leadership roles during my senior year at LC because I felt it was important to share my wonderful experiences as a student with new incoming students. I felt that if I could help others realize the many services that LC has to offer it would ease their transition. I also got involved with the Sociology and Criminology Club this year and gained the president position. I feel that it is important for students to have access to a community of people in their field of study. Through this club I would like the Socio-Crim students to connect with one another as well as the entire faculty that they interact with inside and outside the classroom. The LC atmosphere is like a community filled with small families that share interests and ideas to make a better community as a whole. I feel like taking some time to commit to improve communication and assisting those that need a little comfort in finding their place on campus will only help build a stronger community. I found the more I get involved the stronger I become as a people person and a leader. I give my time and I receive a lot satisfaction in knowing that I may have touched someone's life and made them feel more at home through my commitment to help others. During the course of the last year I have been involved in many group projects; each of these projects have helped me foster leadership skills that I can in turn use in the world in career settings. Being part of a team is more than getting orders to follow it is becoming an innovative thinker and communicated ideas that help reach project completion." |
| R. Lindsay Fender '11 PRSSA, President Connection Leader Cross Country Phi Kappa Phi Omicron Delta Kappa Lambda Pi Eta Personal Involvement Coming to Lynchburg College, I knew that I wanted to be involved with campus organizations but I never imagined my involvement reaching the extent that it has. Since I arrived on campus I have run cross country, indoor and outdoor track, and have still found time to participate in various campus clubs. My freshman year I was a part of a leadership development series called LC LEADS and from there my interest in becoming involved grew. I have served three semesters on the Student Senate, have worked as a Connection Leader for the past two years, and currently serve as the president of the Public Relations Student Society of America. It is through my involvement at LC that I have come to meet many great friends and advisers. Being engaged in the campus community at LC has greatly enhanced my college experience and has helped prepare me for my career and life in general after college. PRSSA
