Three Hornets Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Accolades

LYNCHBURG, VAThree Lynchburg College soccer players recently earned Academic All-District honors, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Senior Lauren Askey (Baltimore, MD/Loch raven) and sophomore Katelyn LeRiche (Guilford, CT/Guilford) represented the women’s soccer team, while senior John Witt (Bedford, VA/Liberty) represented the LC men’s program.

Askey earned first-team All-District College Division honors. She boasts a 3.96 cumulative GPA with a major in athletic training, and was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2006 and 2007. Askey is a three-time first-team All-ODAC selection as a defender. She is eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, to be voted on by CoSIDA later in the month.

LeRiche, a nursing major, has a 3.96 grade-point average and earned a spot on the All-District second-team. She has started all 22 games this season as a major part of a defensive unit that has allowed just five goals this season with five straight-shutouts. Both Askey and LeRiche were named last night to the ODAC All-Tournament Team after helping LC win the 2007 ODAC title 2-0 at Roanoke College.

Witt, an All-District second-teamer, has a 3.82 cumulative grade-point average with a nursing major. A forward, he had two goals this season and was named 2006-07 Lynchburg’s Men’s Scholar Athlete, presented at the school’s year-ending athletic banquet.
