Hornet Women’s Soccer Wins 2007 ODAC Title!!|
Defeats Roanoke 2-0 in Conference Finals
SALEM, VA – The fourth-seeded Lynchburg College women’s soccer team upset #2 Roanoke College 2-0 Saturday evening to win the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament title. It is LC’s third conference title in the last four seasons and seventh all-time.
Lauren Askey (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) gave the Hornets an early lead that they would never relinquish. The senior defender scored an unassisted tally at the 19:39 mark that bounced into the net off the goalkeeper. LC would take the 1-0 edge into halftime.
The Hornets struck again for an insurance goal 15 minutes after intermission. Sara Butsavage (Virginia Beach, VA/First Colonial) collected a cross from Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) and found the back of the net.
Lynchburg out-shot Roanoke 13-7 for the game and was awarded five corner kicks to the Maroons’ four. RC keeper Erin Hanson made six stops while LC’s Jackie Bader (Fort Washington, MD/Bishop Ireton) made one save.
The win gives Lynchburg (17-3-2) and head coach Dr. Todd Olsen the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament. The brackets will be released late Sunday evening/early Monday morning. Roanoke, now 17-3-1, awaits a possible at-large berth.
