Lynchburg Women’s Soccer to Play in ODAC Finals
Ties Va. Wesleyan 0-0 in Double Overtime – LC Advances on PKs

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The contest will go into the books as a 0-0 double overtime tie, but the Lynchburg College women’s soccer team will advance into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament finals after winning a shootout 3-1 at top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan College Wednesday evening.

The two teams battled for 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods with the defenses ruling the field, the same as they had two weeks before – as VWC and LC played to a 0-0 double overtime tie on October 20. But in the tournament format - a five shot shoot-out would determine which squad would compete in the conference finals this weekend.

The Marlins shot first and hit the crossbar, while Ashley Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) drilled the first attempt for the Hornets. Missy Kuhns tied the score for Va. Wesleyan, but Katie Santos (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop Ireton) answered back for the Hornets. VWC again hit the cross-bar on its third attempt, and Danielle Crotty (Mason, OH/Mason) converted again for LC. The Marlins needed to score on their fourth attempt to stay alive, but Hornet keeper Jackie Bader (Fort Washington, MD/Bishop Ireton) made the save to send Lynchburg to victory.

The Marlins (14-2-3), ranked ninth in the latest NCAA Division III rankings, await a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Lynchburg (16-3-2) will travel to second-seeded Roanoke College on Saturday to face the Maroons for the conference title. Game-time has not yet been set.
