LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated visiting St. Mary's College (MD) 2-0 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match-up on Shellenberger Field.

Senior Samantha Howard (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) put the Hornets on the board in the 37th minute, and Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) added an insurance goal with less than two minutes to go in the game.

Emily Richards recorded 10 saves for St. Mary's (7-2). LC out shot the Seahawks 19-6 and held an 11-3 edge in penalty corners.

LC (7-2) travels down to Salisbury, NC, on Wednesday to battle Division II opponent Catawba College at 4 p.m.
