Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA - Linda Cimini scored twice in the second half to give the Eastern Mennonite University field hockey team a 2-1 come-from-behind win over #18-ranked Lynchburg College Friday night in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for both teams.

Senior Samantha Howard (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) put the Hornets on the board just four minutes into the game, on a feed from Jessi Bowman ( Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill). LC dominated the rest of the first half, out-shooting the Royals 13-2, but couldn't capitalize with a goal.

EMU came out strong after intermission, with Cimini scoring at 41:31, and again at the 46:37 minute mark, from Alyssa Derstine. The Royal defense allowed just four Hornet second-half shots, while dominating the penalty corner statistic 7-1.

Lynchburg out-shot EMU 17-14 for the game, while the Royals (2-5/1-0 ODAC) held an 8-3 edge in penalty corners. Becky Nolt made six saves in the cage for EMU, and Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) made five stops for the Hornets.

LC (6-2/0-1 ODAC) hosts St. Mary's College Saturday at 2 p.m.
