Lynchburg Field Hockey Defeats McDaniel 3-1

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated visiting McDaniel College 3-1 Sunday on Shellenberger Field in non-conference play.

Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) led the Hornets with a goal and an assist. Samantha Howard (Fairfax Station, VA/W.T. Woodson) and Jessi Bowman (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) each added a goal while Signey Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) and Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) tacked on an assist each. Goalie Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) recorded five for the Hornets.

Brooke Dixon scored the goal for the Green Terror off a feed from Lindsay McDonald, and Erika Wawzyanick stopped seven shots for McDaniel. Lynchburg (6-1) out-shot McDaniel (2-3) 27-11 while each team received seven penalty corners.

Lynchburg returns to the field on Friday in its Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener to face the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University at 6 p.m. on Shellenberger Field.
