Lynchburg Women's Soccer Defeats Maryville 2-0


LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College women's soccer team shutout the visiting Maryville College Scots 2-0 on the second day of the Shellenberger Classic.

Freshman Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) opened the scoring for the Hornets in the 20th minute on an unassisted goal and also contributed with an assist on a Sara Butsavage (Virginia Beach, VA/First Colonial) goal in the 53rd minute.

A stellar defensive performance by the Hornets held the Scots to just three shots, all in the first half. Lindsay York recorded six saves for Maryville while Jackie Bader ( Forst Washington, MD/Bishop Ireton) played all 90 minutes in net for Lynchburg to earn the win.

The Hornets (3-1) hit the road on Wednesday to Greensboro, NC, to face the Greensboro College Pride at 4 p.m.
