Weir Scores Three as LC Field Hockey Beats York 4-0

YORK, PA - Sophomore attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) scored three goals Sunday as the Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated York College 4-0.

Weir assisted on a Samantha Howard (Fairfax Station, VA/W.T. Woodson) goal six minutes into the game to give LC an early 1-0 lead. The advantage remained just 1-0 until the 51-minute mark, when Erin Funkhouser (Natural Bridge, VA/Menchville) assisted on Weir's first goal. She scored again one minute later from Howard and completed the hat trick with an unassisted tally two minutes later. Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) made five stops to preserve the shutout.

The Hornets out-shot the Spartans 27-8, while each team was awarded six penalty corners. Claire Rekitzke made 13 saves for York (1-4).

Lynchburg (4-1) hosts Villa Julie College Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
