Phil Francois Posts Three More Goals as LC Men Defeat Ursinus 3-1
Hornets Win Hampden-Sydney Classic Crown

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Senior forward Phil Francois (West Windsor, NJ/Princeton) scored three times as the Lynchburg College men's soccer team defeated Ursinus College 3-1 Sunday in the title game of the Hamdpen-Sydney College Classic. Francois was tabbed the Classic's MVP after scoring all five Hornet goals over the weekend.

The Bears' got on the scoreboard first - as Othmane Boutayeb scored from Ian Reitman at the 41:13 mark of the first half. Francois found the back of the net 1:30 later and the game was tied at one at halftime. Francois scored again with 15 minutes remaining in the game to give LC a 2-1 edge and put the game away with another tally off a penalty kick in the final 35 seconds.

Senior goalie Marcus Jordan (Lynchburg, VA/Germantown) made three saves to earn the win, while Ed de Gottal stopped four LC shots. Lynchburg out shot Ursinus 12-11 and was awarded two more corner kicks (4-2).

Four Hornets joined Francois on the All-Classic Team: sophomore Stephen Brooks (Vienna, VA/Paul VI Catholic), sophomore Pat Brown (Williamsburg, VA/Christchurch), senior Modou Jobarteh (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy) and freshman Matt Rowe (Manassas, VA/Osbourn).

The Hornets (2-0) travel to Ferrum College Wednesday for a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
