Hornet Men's Soccer Defeats Alvernia 2-0
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Senior Phil Francois (West Windsor, NJ/Princeton) converted on two penalty kicks Saturday to lift the Lynchburg College men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Alvernia College (PA) at the Hampden-Sydney College Classic.
The contest was tied through the first 44:39 of the opening half, until Francois nailed his first penalty kick with 21 ticks remaining. He found the back of the net on his second at the 65:43 mark to give LC an insurance tally.
Senior Marcus Jordan (Lynchburg, VA/Germantown) made one save in goal to give the Hornet defense a shutout in the opener. Lynchburg out-shot Alvernia 24-7 and held an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks. Richard Kessler made eight saves for Alvernia (0-1).
Lynchburg will face Ursinus College (PA) Sunday at noon at H-SC.
