LC Field Hockey Defeats Sewanee 5-1

LYNCHBURG, PA - The Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated visiting Sewanee 5-1 in a non-conference match on Shellenberger Field on Sunday.

LC was led by sophomore Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River), who scored one goal and added three assists. Erin Funkhouser (Natural Bridge, VA/Menchville), Samantha Howard (Fairfax Station, VA/W.T. Woodson), Jessi Bowman (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill), and Carter Maxey (Midlothian, VA/James River) each added a goal apiece while Funkhouser tacked on an assist.

Lynn Hancock scored the lone goal for Sewanee off a pass from Julie Wilson. Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) recorded four saves while Clarkie Crawford tallied six saves for Sewanee. LC (2-0) outshot Sewanee (1-1) 22-7 and held an 8-5 edge in penalty corners.

LC goes on the road on Wednesday to face the University of Mary Washington at 4:30 pm in Fredericksburg, VA.
