The Westover Room is very proud to carry the Westover name, derived from Westover Hall, the founding building of the College. Built as a resort hotel in 1891, the structure was empty when Josephus Hopwood and the group of civic and church leaders, who had invited him to Lynchburg, visited it in the spring of 1903. On the faith of this small group of people, the option to purchase was executed, and the College opened in the fall of 1903. Westover Hall served as the entire physical plant for the College until the completion of Carnegie Hall, a men's dormitory, in 1910.
