Experience and Background
I had the great fortune to spend 32 years in public education. I began my teaching career in with Bedford County Public Schools at Liberty High School in 1976, where I coached football and track. During the summers at LHS I worked with the BCPS maintenance colleagues prior to becoming the summer school principal. My next stop was Heritage High School with Lynchburg City Schools where I worked for five years as a teacher, head football coach, and assistant principal. In 1991 I returned to Bedford County Public Schools as the principal of Jefferson Forest High School. The Amherst County School Board appointed me the assistant superintendent for business, finance and support services effective January 1997. In July 2001 I became the superintendent of ACPS and served through June 2008. While employed with ACPS, I had the opportunity to serve as adjunct faculty for Lynchburg College and the University of Virginia, teaching graduate level courses in school finance and the principalship.

In 2008, I came to Lynchburg College as fulltime associate professor and chair of the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction Program, teaching courses for educational leadership and curriculum and instruction programs.
