Psychology major
From Gretna, Virginia

I knew that Lynchburg College was the right choice for me because of the welcoming and helpful admissions process.

When I transferred I was not planning to major in Psychology. I took an introductory course in the first semester and I loved it! I have enjoyed learning from each of my Psychology professors.

Being able to complete two internships in the psychiatric unit at a nearby hospital has helped me define my goals for the future. I also enjoyed working on campus as an assistant in the Psychology lab. I like being able to help other students and enjoyed being a peer mentor for new transfer students.

I would transfer to the College all over again because the transfer process at LC is easy!

History major, Museum Studies minor
From Ruther Glen, Virginia

I discovered Lynchburg College through the strong American History program. I fell in love with the College during a campus visit.

While working on my degree I am also gaining experience through my Museum Studies minor that will help me pursue a career. I work as a student assistant for exhibits in the Daura Art Gallery on campus. The gallery director, Barbara Rothermel, advised me to apply for a summer internship with the DEA Museum in Arlington, Va. I was excited to be accepted for the internship because federal museums are tough during the application process! They required an extensive security clearance process over several months.

My work in the [Daura] gallery is also providing me with an opportunity to work with the local city museum system. Lynchburg College offers so many good programs and each one offers the opportunity to know the faculty one on one.

I was impressed by the really helpful staff and students that assist with the transition to Lynchburg College.

Environmental Studies major, Political Science minor
From Lynchburg, Virginia

I began planning to major in Environmental Studies while attending the local community college. I chose Lynchburg College because of the strong reputation of the program.

The diversity of subjects in Environmental Studies really appeals to me. It's so valuable to be able to take concepts and knowledge discussed in the classroom out into the field. Having weekly access to an 'outdoor laboratory' like the Claytor Nature Study Center offers a great opportunity to apply what you are learning.

I'm very committed to conservation. It's exciting to be part of the progress the College is making in more efficient use of energy and water on campus. My senior project involved developing a climate action plan for LC. I presented ideas from this plan at the Virginia Environment Symposium, which brings students, faculty, industry, and government agencies together.

The College felt like home since day one. The transfer process was seamless and the people at Lynchburg College are welcoming!
