Take advantage of this service-learning study abroad program and travel to Gulu, the economic capital of Northern Uganda, and work directly with local leaders and citizens to promote public health initiatives!

Dr. Olsen, in partnership with Sports Outreach Institute (headquartered in Lynchburg) has extensive experience within the region. This program partners with local staff from Sports Outreach Institute Africa and provides unparalleled field experience to public health dimensions in another country.

Through this cultural immersion experience, students will have the opportunity to explore and gain insight into the significant public health matters in Africa such as: HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, emerging disease risks, nutrition, child and maternal health, mental health, access to safe water, and provisions for medications and care.

Expand your worldview as you build relationships with the people of Africa, acquiring practical skills in disease intervention and prevention, human resource management, team building, and program management through this unique immersion study abroad program in Uganda.
