Experience

In graduate school, I studied to become a specialist in nineteenth-century English poetry. Life, however, took my career in some unexpected directions. After teaching for one year at William Paterson College in New Jersey and for five years at the College of Wooster in Ohio, I taught, usually part-time, at a number of colleges and universities in Illinois, Maryland, South Dakota, and (eventually) Ohio again. For four years, I taught at a private high school in Cleveland; for seven years, I worked as a grant-proposal writer -- an experience that gave me some appreciation of what it means to write for a living. Along the way, I developed an interest in writing mysteries and have published more than thirty mystery stories, most of them in Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine. My husband, Dennis, and I moved to Lynchburg two years ago, and we're finding it a charming place to build our empty nest. We have two wonderful daughters, Sarah (Silver Spring) and Rachel (Cleveland); a delightful son-in-law, Josh; three perfect grandchildren, Moty (5), Zahavah (3), and Ilana (born July 1, 2010); and a feisty but affectionate cat named Ari.
