Student Orientation and Registration (SOAR)

SOAR is the most fun you can have on two feet! Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration, but SOAR is designed to help new students get ready to start college. At SOAR, you will meet your Connection Leader (an upper-class student who will work with you throughout fall semester), your advisor, and a lot of your fellow students. You will get your class schedule, and, if needed, you may make changes to your schedule (although most students don't make any changes to their schedules).

The three early SOAR sessions in June and July are preferable to August as you get your class schedule, meet your Connection Leader and Freshman Advisor who can answer questions throughout the summer, and meet many other students who will be in your classes. Some students find their roommates at SOAR (residence housing assignments are made in mid-July). Students attending the early SOAR sessions report they are better ready for college and feel more comfortable on campus during the first few weeks of class.

For Parents and Family

We encourage you to attend SOAR, as there is programming especially for parents and guests. You will meet college officials, learn about campus services, and understand more about the Lynchburg College community. You'll also find your interactions with Connection Leaders most helpful in understanding how best to help your student be successful at LC. Unfortunately, parents cannot stay on campus.
