The Advising and Academic Resource Center (AARC) provides academic support and guidance for the overall success of undergraduate students. The AARC’s dedicated, professional staff are committed to the success of each student, inside and outside the classroom, and offer a variety of tools to help students excel academically.
Services
First-Year Students
- First-Year Initiatives offers programs and events designed to connect, inspire, and engage students throughout the year, enabling them to build relationships with classmates, student leaders, campus administrators, and academic advisors while acclimating to the campus community.
- College Success Strategies (GS 104), taught by AARC staff, reinforces basic study habits, including time management, active reading, critical reading, and thinking skills.
Second-Year Students
- The Second-Year Experience program helps students make a seamless transition from their first year at Lynchburg to their second by fostering intellectual rigor, integrating academics and co-curricular engagement, and presenting a wide range of learning opportunities.
Transfer and Access Students
- The AARC offers inclusive programs to help support and guide transfer and Access students. Programs include orientation, Welcome Week activities, Tau Sigma Academic Honor Society, and other programs throughout the year.
Commuter Students
- The AARC offers programs and services designed just for commuter students.
All Students
- In accordance with federal regulations and the University’s mission, the Center for Accessibility and Disability Resources provides programs and services that help students with disabilities achieve their academic goals.
- Academic Advising helps students plan their educational pathway. Advisors help students set educational and vocational goals and promote involvement in co-curricular experiences that encourage integration into campus life and develop academic, social, and leadership skills.
- The Academic Coaching Program (ACP) offers one-on-one coaching for students on academic warning or probation.
- Peer Assisted Supplemental Study (PASS) provides tutoring in traditionally difficult classes. PASS is offered in a variety of subjects in the Lynchburg College of Arts and Sciences and College of Business.
- The Get Organized (GO) mentoring program provides short-term, targeted assistance to students, helping them connect with campus resources and develop organizational skills, including study habits, time management, and prioritizing.
