Experience/ Background
James J. H. Price joined the faculty of Lynchburg College in 1965 and has served as Professor of religious studies since 1983.
Professor Price graduated cum laude from Hampden-Sydney College with a B.A. degree and from Union Theological Seminary with B.D. and Th.M. degrees. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Vanderbilt University. He has also studied at faculté de théologie protestante, Montpellier, France.
Dr. Price is the 2006 recipient of the T. A. Abott Award for Faculty Excellence presented by the Board of Directors of Higher Education and Leadership Ministries of the Christan Church (Disciples of Christ). He was the John Franklin East Distinguished Professor of the Humanities from 1995-1999.
An ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., his exegetical studies of New Testament passages in the International Uniform Lesson series have been published for many years in The Presbyterian Outlook, a nationally circulated independent weekly serving the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. During the last two years, he has published over sixty studies on Mark's Gospel, Luke-Acts, I and II Corinthians, Ephesians, and selected parables and actions of Jesus in the Gospels.
His professional memberships include the Society of Biblical Literature and Exegesis, American Academy of Religion, Presbytery of the Peaks, and Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.
