University of Lynchburg brought home two conference basketball championships Sunday after hard-fought contests in Salem.
The women’s basketball team won its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference crown in a 62-55 victory against Guilford College. Although Guilford opened the game with an eight-point lead, the Hornets battled back beginning in the second quarter. The men’s team defeated Randolph College in overtime 62-60. This was the first time the Hornets won the ODAC title in men’s basketball since 1979. Although Randolph was ahead by two points with four seconds left, LC’s Zack Burnett ’17 made two free throws to tie the game and force overtime, where the Hornets took the lead for good. Both teams will advance into the NCAA tournament. The women will face Birmingham-Southern College on Friday at Maryville College in Tennessee as the men take on Scranton University Friday at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
