The University of Lynchburg Choral Union will present a fall concert, “Sure on this Shining Night,” Saturday, November 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Snidow Chapel at University of Lynchburg. The concert will benefit the Lynchburg Branch of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, and admission will be a donation of cash or two or more non-perishable food items.
The program will feature a variety of choral compositions including a Russian folk song , works by Brahms and Mozart, spirituals, and the title piece, “Sure on this Shining Night,” by Morten Lauridsen.
Jeremy Craft, director of the Jefferson Forest High School and Forest Middle School choirs, will conduct the chorus with Rose Peak as accompanist. Craft is serving as interim director of the Choral Union while Dr. Jong Kim serves in a two-year appointment as the artistic director and principal conductor of the Incheon City Chorale in South Korea.
“I am incredibly humbled and honored to be filling in for Dr. Kim during his tenure with the Incheon City Chorale,” Craft said. “The students and faculty at University of Lynchburg have been welcoming and encouraging through this transition, and I could not be happier to serve the college that has truly given me so much.”
A candidate for the master of arts in music at University of Lynchburg, Craft earned his BS in music education from Concord University and a MEd in reading from University of Lynchburg. During his nine years of teaching, Craft has served as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician in various locations throughout Virginia and was the district representative for District VI as part of the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA). He has been published in Virginia Harmony and has presented at six VMEA conferences.
The LC Choral Union is an auditioned choral ensemble that performs choral masterworks. The group is composed of University of Lynchburg, students, faculty, staff, alumni and community singers.
