The Lynchburg area experienced torrential downpours over the past two weeks. As the storms finally abated, Dr. Tom Shahady, a University of Lynchburg professor of environmental science, spent some time at a nearby reservoir to examine the impact that the rain had on water quality. He then took questions from the media to explain the impact to others.
Last week, he appeared on WSET in an interview with Suri Crowe.
This week, he talked with Mari White and Brian Weigand on Lynchburg’s Morning Show.
The deluge of rain does wash sediment and pollution into waterways. However, Dr. Shahady points out that reservoirs help filter pollution and erosion before the water carries it to the Chesapeake Bay.
