Love’s Labour’s Lost

LoveLC Theatre will present Love’s Labour’s Lost Thursday, Oct. 18 to Sunday, Oct. 21 in the Dillard Theatre, which coincides with LC’s Homecoming.

This sassy Shakespearean comedy will be updated to create a contemporary look at four college couples and their bargains of love. Check out coverage in The News & Advance.

Fictional fraternity and sorority members, along with professors, add to the authenticity of the college theme. The setting will look like the College’s Dell, complete with red chairs.

“One of the reasons I am doing the show this way is for Homecoming,” said Geoffrey Kershner, assistant professor of theatre, who is making his LC debut with this play. “It is a celebration of Lynchburg College and campus life. Through Love’s Labour’s Lost, we are exploring the college experience. It embraces the enthusiasm of young love and the dedication to self-betterment. It is amazing how much Shakespeare’s play speaks to this. It really captures the hopes and struggles of young adults.”

In this updated version of Shakespeare, “men swear off women so they can focus on their studies,” Kershner added. Known locally for his work at Endstation Theatre at Sweet Briar College during the summer, Kershner has been teaching in Florida the rest of the year. He said he is thrilled to be in Lynchburg full time.

“It’s an exciting time to be here,” he said. “The students are great; they’re so excited and eager.”

LoveKershner said he is glad to be able to offer more performance classes at LC and also get more students involved in Endstation Theatre.

Love’s Labour’s Lost will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18, 19, and 20, and at 2 p.m. Oct. 21. Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for seniors (60+) and groups of 10 or more; and $5 for all students.
