Women’s soccer midfielder Betsy Kwiatkowski and men’s soccer defender Hunter Smith earned the top honors Monday evening at the 2010-11 University of Lynchburg Athletic Awards Banquet.
Smith, from Goode, Va., was a double winner at the ceremony, taking home the Male Senior and Male Athlete of the Year Awards. He anchored the LC defense that allowed just 19 goals for the whole 2010 campaign. An All-American Third-Team selection and a Scholar All-American, Smith was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Year. He also earned First-Team All-Region, All-State, and All-ODAC honors. Smith was a major part of two ODAC Championship teams and the Hornets made it all the way to the NCAA National Championship game this fall.
Kwiatkowski, from Mount Jackson, Va., surpassed the old school record for assists for her career and ranks second on the Hornet All-Time lists for career goals and points. An All-American in 2010 and the All-ODAC and All-State Player of the Year, she led the conference in points and assists. Kwiatkowski has won numerous other awards in her career and is a four-time first-team All-ODAC, All-State and All-Region First-Team selection. LC has won three ODAC titles in her four seasons and made it all the way to the Final Four in her junior campaign.
