Equestrians named reserve champions

LC’s equestrian team claimed the reserve champion title at the University of Virginia IHSA and the Zone 4 Region II Regional Championships.

Entering into the show, the team was ranked fourth. However, the year end points came down to the final class, open fences, where Lynchburg was able to beat out Bridgewater College to claim the title as reserve champion for Region II. Hollins University came away with the first place ribbon.

Boasting a first place finish in the walk-trot-canter was Caroline Thompson (Fredericksburg, VA/James Monroe). Rachel Jones (Toano,VA/Warhill) found second place in the novice fences. Also coming in second was Jamie Carille (Virginia Beach, VA/Frank W. Cox) in the intermediate flat. Drew Nichols (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson) placed third in the walk-trot, Kelly Gerland (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) came in fourth in open fences, and Emily Eckenberger (Weston, CT/Weston) rang in sixth place in the novice flat.

The Equestrian team will return to competition in April with the ODAC Championships hosted by Randolph College.
