Excellence in teaching business
Dr. Eric S. Kyper, assistant professor of management information systems, has received the 2012 C. Raine Sydnor Sr. Professorship Award for Teaching Excellence in Business.
Dr. Kyper teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in information systems and business statistics. Awarded the PhD by the University of Rhode Island, he taught at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock before joining the Lynchburg College faculty in 2008.

Scholarships for Leaders
Nigel C. Word '14 has received a 2012-2013 VFIC/Altria Leadership Scholarship administered by the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges.
Word is a business administration major with a minor in communications with an emphasis on social influence from Gretna, Va.
Tristan L. Boysaw '13, an accounting major from Wytheville, Va., received the scholarship last year.

"The Laramie Project"
LC Theatre will present The Laramie Project April 12 - 15 in Dillard Theatre. The Laramie Project was written by Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project following the kidnapping, beating, and death of Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old student at the University of Wyoming who was attacked because he was gay.

"Edward Young and Samuel Richardson's Correspondence" is the subject of a talk at 7:30 p.m. April 5 in Sydnor Performance Hall, Schewel Hall by Dr. James E. May, associate professor of English, Penn State University. The talk is co-sponsored by the Ida Wise East Memorial Lecture and Phi Beta Kappa and is free and open to the public.

Lynchburg College students actively use Facebook, download videos, tweet, and search the internet. In their Social Media Marketing course in the School of Business and Economics (SOBE), students are using their digital savvy to help others.
They have formed Students Opposing Starvation (S.O.S) to help save the lives of malnourished children in East Africa and are organizing a social media campaign targeting LC students, faculty and friends.

Callom Harkrader '12 has been accepted into the Oxford Center for Christian Apologetics at Wycliffe Hall for the 2012-2013 one-year certificate program. The OCCA is a fully accredited branch of Oxford University.
Callom will be seeking the Certificate in Theological and Pastoral Studies, designed specifically as preparation for Christian service in the office, church, or home. The course aims to combine serious study of the Bible and Christian doctrine with an opportunity to experience Christian apologetics in action.

The History Department is hosting the Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference this Saturday. Students from several Virginia colleges and universities will present research papers in American, European, and world history in Schewel Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Eight LC students will be among the 64 presenting papers at the conference. LC is represented by:

• Tessa Evans, "Potion for Power: Slave Women and Authority through Unorthodox Practices"

Dr. Yong Ha Kim Elected as College Trustee
Dr. Yong Ha Kim was elected to the Lynchburg College Board of Trustees in February. Dr. Kim, the Board's first international member, attended the Annual Board of Trustees Meeting in May, 2010. A resident of Seoul, South Korea, he holds two Lynchburg College degrees: a BA in management (1991) and an M.Ad. in personnel management (1993). A graduate of Heritage High School in Lynchburg, Virginia, Dr. Kim is Vice President of External Cooperation for Konyang University, which was founded in 1991 by his father, Hi Soo Kim.

Economists from across the state met met at Lynchburg College for the 37th annual meeting of the Virginia Association of Economists on March 4-5, 2010. Presentations were made by 20 scholars from ten different colleges and universities, two private consulting firms, the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, and the Congressional Research Service.
Program highlights included a Plenary Session entitled "A Glimpse at Virginia's Economic Future," the annual Sandridge Lecture, and two concurrent sessions showcasing undergraduate student research.

About 700 LC students contributed 71,064 hours of community service in 2010-11 to earn Lynchburg College a place on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for 2012.
