April 20-22 is Westover Alumni Society Weekend 2012 for members of the classes of 1927-1971 and their guests.

The classes of 1952, 1957, 1962, and 1967 will celebrate their class reunions and the 2012 Alumni Awards will be presented Saturday, April 21, at the Westover Alumni Society Dinner.

Dr. Casey Clabough and graduate student Ron Coleman '06 will read from their works at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Riverviews Artspace.

Dwayne Jones '13 has not missed a Relay for Life since the fifth grade, which is all the more remarkable since he wasn't supposed to make it to fifth grade.

Dr. Elza Tiner, professor of English and Latin, was one of twenty academics selected worldwide to participate in the "Rhetoric in the 21st Century" Rhetoric Symposium at the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies

The School of Business and Economics (SOBE) was recently ranked No. 29 in the nation by Leadership Excellence magazine for its leadership development activities.

A list of the top 49 educational institutions can be found at 2011 - 2012 Top Leadership Development Programs. Lynchburg College is the only Virginia institution in the Top 30; SOBE shared this honor with business schools at University of Michigan, Harvard, MIT, Northwestern, University of Pennsylvania, and Duke.

Nigel C. Word '14 has received a 2012-2013 VFIC/Altria Leadership Scholarship administered by the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges.

Word is a business administration major with a minor in communications with an emphasis on social influence from Gretna, Va.

Tristan L. Boysaw '13, an accounting major from Wytheville, Va., received the scholarship last year.

"Edward Young and Samuel Richardson's Correspondence" is the subject of a talk at 7:30 p.m. April 5 in Sydnor Performance Hall, Schewel Hall by Dr. James E. May, associate professor of English, Penn State University. The talk is co-sponsored by the Ida Wise East Memorial Lecture and Phi Beta Kappa and is free and open to the public.

Callom Harkrader '12 has been accepted into the Oxford Center for Christian Apologetics at Wycliffe Hall for the 2012-2013 one-year certificate program. The OCCA is a fully accredited branch of Oxford University.

Callom will be seeking the Certificate in Theological and Pastoral Studies, designed specifically as preparation for Christian service in the office, church, or home. The course aims to combine serious study of the Bible and Christian doctrine with an opportunity to experience Christian apologetics in action.

President Kenneth Garren recently received the George Taylor Stewart III Award from the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce for exemplary service to the Lynchburg region.
