First-Year Student Checklist
For All First-Year Students Entering August 2015
Get ready for college in 7 easy steps!
All of the steps below can be found and accessed on your Applicant Status Page.
Step 1: Complete the Schedule Planning Form
When it's due: May 15, or one week after we receive your reservation deposit.
Once we have received your completed Schedule Planning Form, which can be found by logging in to your Applicant Status Page, we will begin to create an initial class schedule customized for you and you will be able to reserve your spot for SOAR.
Step 2: Reserve Your Place at SOAR
When it's due: May 15; sessions remain open until filled.
When is SOAR? June 22-23, June 25-26, and June 29-30
Student Orientation And Registration helps you get ready for college.
For your convenience, there are multiple dates for you to choose from. Once you have completed your Schedule Planning Form, you may reserve your place at SOAR through the link provided you in your e-mail.
SOAR begins with check-in from noon to 1:30 PM on the first day: start at Schewel Hall for registration when you get to campus. SOAR ends around 5 PM the second day.
- International students and students living overseas will also attend an orientation in August designed specifically for them by our Center for Global Education.
If you have a conflict that will prevent you from attending SOAR, it is important that you contact our office at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible.
Step 3: Submit Your Health Information Form
When it's due: July 15, or you may bring it with you to June SOAR.
All full-time undergraduate students need to complete the health form, regardless of whether you live on or off campus. Health forms must be completed and returned to the Health Center office by July 15 (for fall semester) or by January 15 (for spring semester).
The Health Information Form will be available for download around March 31.
For more information about the Health Center and to download the form, visit the Health Center web pages or call 434.544.8357.
Step 4: Attend SOAR
Get everything ready, make some new friends, and learn the LC ropes so you'll feel comfortable when you arrive for the start of the semester. See a sample SOAR schedule (PDF).
Step 5: Complete Your Housing Preference Form
When it's due: mid-July
The housing preference form allows you to request a preferred roommate. If you meet someone at SOAR and both of you would like to be roommates, you may make the request before the assignment process occurs. If you do not have a preferred roommate, please complete the form so that you can be paired with a compatible roommate. Assignments will be made around the third week of July and you will be notified through your Lynchburg College e-mail.
Step 6: Enjoy the Common Reading Experience
When it's due: August 15
The common reading experience provides first-year students a similar academic experience before beginning at Lynchburg College. All first-year students are asked to read a book, selected by faculty, staff, and students, which they will discuss in a small group setting with their academic advisor during Hornet Days. This is a great way to start your LC academic experience and to have a common topic to discuss with each other upon arrival in the fall.
This year’s Common Reading selection will be announced soon! Check back often for updates.
Step 7: New Student Check-in and Move-in
When: August 15-16
Important note: Students trying out for soccer (men's and women's), volleyball, or field hockey may be checking in and moving in earlier. Please contact your coach or the Athletic Department for more information. Students participating in Music Camp, the Westover Honors Program, the Summer Transition Program, and the ABOVE Program may be checking in and moving in earlier. Please contact your respective program coordinator for more information.
9 a.m. - 5 p.m.: New student check-in, Schewel Hall
Upon arrival, stop by Schewel Hall to receive keys, loft kits, Hornet Days schedule, and valuable information needed to begin your journey at LC. Members of the campus community will be available to help you move into your residence halls.
11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.: Lunch available in dining hall (students can use their meal plans while parents and guests may pay at the door).
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.: First Night FYEsta and Welcome Home Dinner. Join your fellow Hornets and family members at a picnic designed to welcome you home to LC and give you a break from moving in.
Get Excited for YOUR First Year!
After you get to campus, you'll attend programs and events for Hornet Days. Hornet Days are designed to continue your orientation to campus and get you excited to start your first year as a Hornet! Classes begin on August 20, 2015.
