September 25: Dementia in Seniors
This sixty-minute presentation will present an overview of the following issues: normal cognitive function, definition of dementia, common causes of dementia in seniors, clinical features of the common dementias, Atherosclerosis and dementia, diet and dementia, medical evaluation of cognitive dysfunction in seniors, treating the demented senior and their caregivers.

October 2: Legal Planning
Learn essential legal and financial tools to aid in planning for long-term care, such as durable power of attorney, medical directives, and guardianship. Topics will include preparations needed for the Alzheimer’s patient. What is legal capacity, what are legal documents, how to find a lawyer, how to prepare for your meeting, what to discuss with your lawyer, and terms your lawyer may use.

October 9: Living with grief
Those attending will learn about the grief process, how to cope with grief and how to continue living through and past grief. An emphasis will be placed upon long term illnesses, such as Alzheimer's disease, and the anticipatory grief that one experiences as long term caregivers.

October 16: Caregivers Stress
Stress management, tips for caregivers to take care of themselves. Learn practical tips to reduce the stress of care giving. Understand what’s going on as early as possible, know community resources, become an educated caregiver, get help, accept changes, give yourself credit, not guilt.

October 30: Partnering with Your Doctor
Provides tools and strategies for patients and their caregivers to receive high-quality health care. Participants will learn the value of partnering with the physician; assessing one’s behavior when visiting one’s own physician; and challenges in physician/caregiver interaction. Attendees will know how to: effectively communicate with their physician; prepare for and maximize their time during doctor visits utilizing care, medication, and appointment logs; strengthen partnerships with their doctor; and how to lower stress and ensure the best health care possible.

November 6 Maintain Your Brain: How to Live a Brain Healthy Lifestyle
Following completion of the session attendees will be able to understand the concept of a healthy brain in relation to brain connection, including nutritional items in a brain-healthy diet; understand the basic effect of physical activity on brain function; and explore social opportunities for the purpose of supporting brain health.
