Lynchburg’s Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction (MEd) program helps educators enhance their skills and knowledge, whether they are looking to become instructional leaders within their school or looking to take courses that can lead to teacher licensure. We have two tracks based on your personal needs: Instructional Leadership Emphasis and Teacher Licensure Emphasis.
Program Emphases
- Instructional Leadership: Licensed teachers can benefit through:
- 30 hours of advanced coursework in curriculum development and instructional strategies
- Focus on effective instruction and preparation for leadership in curriculum development and instructional planning within schools
- Teacher Licensure: Aspiring teachers can benefit from:
- 36-hour teacher licensure program
- Opportunity to work toward satisfying licensure requirements while earning an MEd degree
- Additional content courses (beyond the 36 hours) may be needed for licensure
- Graduate internship — similar to student teaching
Regardless of the emphasis, you can develop the knowledge and skills necessary to research, analyze, evaluate, and apply curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment to improve the academic achievement of all students. You also can learn to design and apply instructional activities and strategies to meet the challenges of learners with diverse needs. You may also be eligible to earn salary increases when you earn your master’s degree (this varies by school division).
We encourage you to apply for the MEd in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Lynchburg. We look forward to helping you achieve your goals and develop your professional skills in education!
