Online Highly Qualified Content Courses at LC
Originally developed through a State Council of Higher Education for Virginia Grant in 2006 in partnership with James Madison University, these nine highly qualified content courses are the only offerings in Virginia that provide special education teachers with the opportunity to obtain discipline specific content knowledge and skills at the middle and high school levels. All nine courses correlate with current Virginia Standards of Learning and are taught by current or retired teachers who designed the modules, serve as mentors/instructors, and assess the work. Courses are self-paced and offered in an online format through the college’s Moodle 2 platform.
To date, over 200 enrollments in these nine modules have been successfully completed, and they are now being offered as one credit hour offerings beginning in January 2014. Interested participants may apply as graduate non-degree students at https://admissions.lynchburg.edu/apply/. Once admitted, students will be able to self-enroll through MyLC online and access the course in Moodle 2 using their unique user identification and password. Students will have the entire term to complete their course(s). Upon completion, the course will be recorded on an official transcript.
Courses will be assessed on a pass/fail basis and will not count toward degree programs. The charge for each course will be the current graduate tuition rate ($460) for a one credit hour course, and students may take more than one course each term.
