Master of Education in Reading
In a rapidly changing society, literacy holds the key to success in the personal, professional, and civic lives of our children.
The MEd in Reading offers two tracks for educators who are interested in professional development: Reading Instruction and Reading Specialist.
The Reading Specialist track leads to a Virginia licensure endorsement as a Reading Specialist, with passage of the Reading for Virginia Educators Assessment.
See the curriculum at a glance for a comparison of the 2 tracks.
Our 36-hour program includes:
- Diagnosis, assessment, and remediation of reading problems
- Explicit reading and literature instruction
- Writing technology
- Research methodology
We also offer the Literacy Studies Certificate that provides four designated courses (12 credit hours) in an online format.
