Professional/Research Interests
I’m a writer; I have written six books – four novels, a collection of novellas, and a collection of stories. I recently completed a screenplay. I am interested in literature of all sorts, but especially Latin American and European literature, multicultural literature, and women’s literature. I have done extensive research for some of my novels (on the art world in Paris at the turn of the 20th century, on the history of pheromones and perfume making, and on nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands after World War II, the Mayan civilization, and the Minoan civilization). I have also done extensive research for some of the literature courses I’ve taught, and simply for my own interests. I have a novel published in The Quarterly and a novella in New Directions. My first novel is forthcoming with Guernica Editions, Toronto, in 2007/08. My stories and novel/novella excerpts have been published in various literary magazines over the last thirty years, including Chelsea, The Mississippi Review, and The Chicago Review.
