
LC Professional Studies Summer Institute is an Alternative Teacher Licensure Program for professionals with a college degree desiring to teach in Virginia.*

What is LC Teach?
LC Teach is a full-time, intensive, six-week comprehensive program designed to help individuals who already hold an undergraduate degree and meet the state competencies for teacher preparation professional studies. This state-approved program satisfies the professional preparation course requirements for Elementary (PK-6)* and Secondary (6-12). LC Teach is suitable for applicants seeking K-12 endorsement programs (including health/physical education, foreign language, art, music, business, and/or technology education) only if they have an active provisional license. (Attach complete provisional license copy to application.)
Participants will earn six hours of non-degree graduate credit. All classes will be held on the College campus from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00p.m. daily, with occasional afternoon activities scheduled and required. Additional afternoon activities are scheduled regularly and required.
Participants who wish to pursue licensure in elementary or middle school education will need to take an additional reading course offered at a separate time. The foreign language endorsement requires an additional specialized methods course that is not included in this program.
What is required for admission to LC Teach?
- Completed bachelor’s degree at least three years prior to intended enrollment unless provisionally licensed.
- Minimum undergraduate grade point average of at least a 2.7 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants who do not meet this requirement may request special consideration by providing passing scores on the Praxis II exam in their intended endorsement as demonstration of knowledge.

Secondary applicants who can document work experience outside the field of education for five or more years may satisfy content course requirements by providing passing scores on Praxis II exam required for intended endorsement. - Passing scores on Virginia Communications and Literacy Assessment test (VCLA)
- Agreement to participate in all program activities
- No criminal record
Individuals who currently hold provisional licensure will be given preference in admission decisions if they have met other admissions criteria.
What is the cost of LC Teach?
Tuition is $2,300 for secondary school; $2,700 for elementary and middle school (fees include tuition for additional reading course.)
How to apply for LC Teach?
- Submit completed application to the School of Education and Human Development, Lynchburg College, 1501 Lakeside Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24501 by March 1, 2008. Completed application must include application form, VCLA scores, official transcripts from all colleges previously attended, complete copy of provisional license if applicable, and Praxis II scores if required (see above).
- Notification of acceptance will be sent by April 10, 2008
- Full Payment, if accepted, is due by May 1, 2008
