  • Experience:

  • Teaching primarily Obstetrical Nursing courses, I have been a professor at Lynchburg College since spring 2006.
  • Other courses I teach are Nursing Fundamentals, Physical Assessment, Pharmacology, Health/Life Choices and I have been honored to be an occasional guest lecturer for undergraduate Gender Study courses.
  • I serve on the curriculum committee, and have been the Senior and Junior Nursing class faculty advisor.
  • Believing in life-long learning, I am currently working towards an M.A. in History at Lynchburg College.
  • Throughout my nursing career I have worked in community and teaching hospitals in obstetrics and pediatrics.
  • My other professional roles have been school nurse, childbirth and parent educator and instructor of OB nursing at Lynchburg General Hospital School of Nursing.
  • After becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife 10 years ago, I had a private practice in Central Virginia before joining the Lynchburg College Nursing Program faculty.

    Personal Info/Interest

    • I have always loved working with mothers and babies, and delivered 2 of my own grandchildren.
    • When time permits I enjoy teaching childbirth preparation classes (Lamaze) at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
    • My husband Brennan and I have five children and five grandchildren (and counting).
    • Other hobbies include family activities, teaching, reading, cooking, cross stitchery and travel.
    • Having grown up in a military family and because of my own personal interest in travel, I have been in all fifty states and lived in many foreign countries.
    • I encourage student interaction and participation in class and in clinical.
    • All are welcome to my office for help or just a chat. I love to talk about the miracle of birth.
