Public Relations and Journalism Emphasis

The Communication Studies program at Lynchburg College strives to prepare students for careers in a fast-paced, global media arena. Students in the Public Relations and Journalism Emphasis work across various forms of media to manage communication and maintain mutually beneficial relationships between an organization and various publics.

This emphasis prepares majors with real-world experiences through creative and technical campus-wide collaboration. Students have access to the latest technologies, allowing them to become proficient at research while writing, editing, and producing a range of media products.

In the Public Relations and Journalism Emphasis, students broaden their understanding of mass communication, the media industry, and the social sciences. Students apply professional public relations and journalism skills and receive training in the world of convergence and new media.

Ethics, information gathering, and writing across media are key components of this emphasis. Public Relations and Journalism students learn how to write for various forms of media through coursework and hands-on experience in a convergent newsroom.
