Professor Robbie Johnson
M.S.N., R.N., C.N.S.

Experience/Background:

I have over 25 years as a nursing educator in Kentucky and Virginia. Clinical practice experience has been in both medical-surgical nursing and adult psychiatric nursing. Since 2004, I have practiced as a family therapist on a part-time basis.

 

Degrees/Certifications:

Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Board Certified by the American Nurse Credentialing Center in Adult Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing and licensed as a CNS in the state of Virginia

Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia

Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Kentucky

 

Professional Interest/Research

I pursue areas of interest in psychiatric mental health nursing and those that promote nursing education. Most recently, I worked with Centra Health to develop a staffing acuity tool for behavioral health areas. I received the Craddock Terry Excellence in Nursing Award from Mental Heath Services at Centra Health in 2004. I continue to pursue excellence in Mental Health Services. I am active in helping senior nursing students prepare for the NCLEX Exam, organizing resources, HESI testing, and participating in the Kaplan Review Services. I have previously presented in Nursing 331, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Health 300L, Pharmacology lab, and Nursing 232L, Health Assessment lab.

 

Information on Courses Taught:

Currently, I am presenting in Nursing 413, Community Health Nursing and Nursing 414 Psychiatric Mental Nursing to senior students. I am also a clinical instructor in these courses.


Personal Info/Interests

I have two sons: Ian McKeag Johnson, a Lynchburg College graduate and an engineer for a local company, and Benjamin Levi Johnson, a James Madison University graduate currently serving in the U.S. Army in the war on terror. I live with my tuxedo cat, "Kitty," and pursue gardening as a hobby.
