Director of Didactic Education - Department of Physician Assistant Medicine

Lynchburg College is pleased to invite both nominations and applications for the position of Director of Didactic Education for our planned program of Master Physician Assistant Medicine (MPAM). Founded in 1903, Lynchburg College is an independent, selective, coeducational college in Lynchburg, Virginia. Traditionally affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Lynchburg College enrolls 2,800 undergraduate and graduate students of all faiths and backgrounds from across the nation and the world. The curriculum offers 35 majors ranging from the liberal arts to professional fields and 14 graduate programs. The College’s 160 faculty members are committed to maintaining a dynamic intellectual community, a rigorous core curriculum, a strong honors program, and support for community service and service learning. As we plan to enroll our first cohort of physician assistant students in 2015, we seek an energetic individual to provide leadership to the clinical component of this program.

Responsibilities: The Didactic Director will be an individual capable of implementing a strong program that reflects the mission of Lynchburg College. This individual will have responsibility for leading the overall responsibility of all academic activities including development of program curriculum, scheduling, assisting with preparation necessary for program accreditation, advising students, admissions, and teaching. S/he will report to the director and department chair of the PA program.

Qualifications: The Didactic Director must be a certified physician assistant or physician with appropriate training. Minimum requirement of a master’s degree with doctorate preferred. Individuals should have a minimum of 3-5 years of medical experience as well as experience relevant to educational settings with particular emphasis on medical education. Previous work in the development and/or support of physician assistant programs is highly desirable. Lynchburg College is particularly interested in an individual who has a commitment to collaborative work and has clinical expertise, demonstrated ability in the management of the educational components of the program, and familiarity with PA preparation programs. Candidate must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the College.

This position will be a 12-month, continuing clinical contract appointment beginning by November 1, 2013. Note: Lynchburg College has applied for provisional accreditation from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The College anticipates matriculating its first class in June 2015, pending provisional accreditation in March 2015. The program will not commence in the event that this provisional accreditation is not received.
