Human Resource Management
Human resource management professionals help companies stay competitive by attracting, developing, and motivating talented and productive employees.
The program for our human resource management major (BA) and minor helps you take an active role in your education, including working for local companies on human resource management issues.
What Will I Study?
The SOBE core classes will give you a solid foundation of business knowledge. Courses in business administration and management will complete the program - courses like operations management; the legal environment of business; and principles of management and organizational behavior.
So that you'll be prepared for whatever human resource management job you enter, our program includes experiential learning opportunities, including an internship.
The internship is an important part of our major because employers are becoming more selective as competition for jobs increases. You'll go to interviews with an edge because you'll already be prepared with practical work experience.
What Can I Do With This Degree?
Human resource management majors are well prepared for HRM-related fields like:
- Hiring and staffing
- Training and development
- Compensation and reward management
- Employee relations
Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM)
SHRM is the largest and most prestigious professional organization for human resource management. As part of the human resource management program, you'll participate in LC's student SHRM chapter, which hosts a variety of events each year.
The chapter invites human resource management practitioners from the area to provide feedback on student's resumes and conduct mock interviews. You can also participant in an annual SHRM Student Conference and compete in HR Games, a student SHRM case competition.
