The Student Health Center is closed during scheduled College breaks and during the summer.
Appointments
Students are seen as walk-ins or by appointments. Appointments are strongly encouraged for the Nurse Practitioner and Physician.
Eligibility
Health services are available to all full-time undergraduates (including full-time ACCESS students) as part of their comprehensive fee. Part-time undergraduates (including part-time ACCESS students) and all graduate students ( full-time and part-time) may use both the Health & Counseling Services for a fee of $200 per semester, payable at the Cashier's Office before the start of each semester. All eligible students must submit a completed Health Information Form, including a record of required immunizations.
Services Available
The Student Health Center provides a variety of services to meet the health care needs of college students. Among the services offered are:
- Evaluation & treatment of most medical conditions
- Gynecological & contraceptive services
- Lab testing
- Allergy injections & immunizations
- Diet & nutrition consultations
- Consultation for psychological & stress issues
- Referrals to community health care providers
- Wellness education program
Medical Care
The Nurse Practitioners and the RN's assess and treat health problems according to physician supervised protocols. Referrals to physicians or other community health care providers are arranged when necessary or at the request of the student. Physicians are available to students in the Student Health Center on Thursday mornings and in their office (Forest Family Physicians) during regular office hours.
Cost
Routine visits to the Student Health Center are provided without charge. Charges for medications, lab tests, and special examinations (e.g. Women's Health exams) can be billed to the student's tuition account or paid for by the student.
Prescriptions
Robertson Drug (434-239-2621), through a special arrangement with the college, delivers prescriptions to campus. This local pharmacy provides prescription billing and files with insurance companies when required information is provided. Other pharmacies are also available to students, but they do not provide on-campus delivery.
Health Insurance
All students are expected to have health insurance. Students should have a current insurance card (including prescription card) available for emergency or other off-campus medical care.
Confidentiality
All consultations and medical records are kept completely confidential. No information will be discussed with or released to anyone without the student's written consent. Medical records and academic records are not connected in any way.
