Dr. Oeida M. Hatcher

Dr. Oeida M. Hatcher (hatcher@lynchburg.edu) is associate professor of music and director of instrumental studies/music education at Lynchburg College. In 2002 she was named chairperson of the Music Department and serves as director of bands at the College, being the first full-time faculty member to hold this position. She conducts the Wind Symphony, Orchestra, and Chamber Music Ensemble; teaches undergraduate music education courses; student teachers; music technology, and administers all aspects of the music program. Dr. Hatcher also serves as director of music at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Dr. Hatcher earned her doctor of musical arts and master of music education at Shenandoah Conservatory, a school of Shenandoah University, and her bachelor of music at Clearwater Christian College. Prior to her appointment at Lynchburg College, she served as choral and instrumental director in secondary education.

Dr. Hatcher maintains an active schedule as guest conductor, clinician, and guest lecturer at the public school and university levels. Her research in computer-based multimedia for college-level instrumental methods courses has led to presentations throughout the United States and Europe.
