Retired Professor of Journalism and Communication Studies
Dr. Heywood L. "Woody" Greenberg began teaching journalism at Lynchburg College in 1982. Prior to coming to LC he had been an investigative reporter for the Charlottesville Daily Progress, editor of the Nelson County Times, news director of WKYY radio in Amherst, Va. and a stringer for WSET-TV in Lynchburg.
Dr. Greenberg began the broadcast journalism program at LC in 1985 and was executive producer of "Eye on LC," a video news magazine about life at the College and beyond. His classes produced dozens of editions of "Eye on LC," including documentaries about the island of San Salvador in the Bahamas, street performers in New Orleans, and The Wildlife Center of Virginia. He was also advisor to the campus newspaper, The Critograph. He served as chairman of the Department of Communication Studies and as dean of the School of Communication and the Arts.
Dr. Greenberg produced an award-winning documentary on a turtle nesting beach on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and several segments for "Virginia Outdoors" for the public broadcasting station in Harrisonburg, Va. He also produced a documentary on The Waltons television program for the Waltons Mountain Museum in Schuyler, Va. He is currently writing articles for Nelson County Life magazine and serves on the boards of directors of three area non-profit organizations.
He created and was the executive director of the Donovan Media Development Center and taught courses in Communication Law and Ethics and Advanced Reporting until his recent retirement in June 2010.
