Master of Education in Counselor Education

The MEd in Counselor Education program trains you to be an effective, ethical, professional practitioner who is equipped to both serve and lead in the counseling profession. It promotes personal growth and academic excellence, emphasizing diversity of experience and ideas.

Our program offers 2 areas of specialization:

Clinical Mental Health Counseling
With a focus on areas of individual, family and group counseling

School Counseling
Emphasizing counseling, consultation skills and guidance curriculum development

Both specializations are fully accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), as well as an Advanced Counseling Certificate (post-master’s). This guarantees that your LC Degree will be recognized and respected across the nation as the highest standard of professional training in the profession.

We use the Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Exam (CPCE) as the comprehensive exam for the program. The CPCE is designed to assess counseling students’ knowledge of counseling information and is used by more than 270 universities and colleges.

The Counselor Education Program at Lynchburg College gave me a realistic view of what a school counselor does through classes, guest speakers, visits to schools, practicum, and internship.
