Special Information Regarding the Counseling Programs
Lynchburg College's Counselor Education Program offers 2 specialties - Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling.
Both programs are fully accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
Important components to both specialties are the practicum and internship requirements. This intensive field experience allows students the opportunity to acclimate to the professional environment while in training.
To be successful, students need to have superior communication skills for these experiences. Further, because the curriculum and experiential activities of the Counselor Education Program are based on a Western model of counseling, this style of counseling learned may not be applicable for the practice of counseling in other countries.
Per our accreditation guidelines, students are trained to understand the cultural context of relationships, issues, and trends in multicultural societies; however, these foci are explored within the program as they pertain to professional counseling within the United States.
