First Year Explorations

FYE - Montgomery HallSince 1999, Lynchburg College has sponsored the First Year Explorations (FYE) Program in Montgomery Hall. By giving first year students the chance to live in a building solely designated for freshman use, we can offer more programming and support to allow students to be successful not just during their transition year, but all throughout college and beyond. To that end, we have had much success with our FYE program, in not only helping students with the transition to college, but with retaining them at Lynchburg College. If you have any questions or comments, please contact a member of the FYE Staff.

The First Year Explorations program is committed to furthering the mission of Residence Life and Lynchburg College by developing a residential community that enables first year students to live and learn from each other; as well as, further develop their own unique qualities. FYE is dedicated to providing extra support and guidance to first year students to aid in their transition to college and to reach their full potential.

In pursuit of this mission, we:

  • Sponsor and/or co-sponsor a variety of programs that allow all students to expand their understanding and comprehension of all aspects of the Wellness Wheel, including, but not limited to, the areas of spiritual, social, cultural, intellectual, emotional, and sexual dimension.
  • Introduce a monthly series called Snack-A-Demic Success where issues directly related to first year students will be presented in a manner that is interesting and educational.
  • Provide a 24 hour, 7 day a week Resource Center where students can receive answers to their questions on a variety of issues, at any time.
  • Provide a professional Area Coordinator for FYE, a graduate Hall Director, and 8 Resident Assistants that are available on a 24 hour, 7 day a week basis that is trained to handle crisis situations as needed.
  • Create a community that is social, but conducive to living, learning, and achieving academic excellence.
  • Offer a variety of social alternatives to students in order to provide options to going out.
  • Recognize and celebrate others’ diversity and uniqueness, while still being able to foster our own thoughts and beliefs.
  • Teach respect of each other, the staff and the building itself so that all residents may have as positive experience in FYE as possible.
