First Year Experience Housing

Since 1999, Lynchburg College has sponsored the First Year Experience (FYE) Program in Montgomery Hall. Beginning in the Fall 2011, that program will also extend to Tate Hall to accommodate all first year students entering Lynchburg College. By giving first year students the chance to live in a building solely designated for freshman use, we can offer more programming and support to allow students to be successful not just during their transition year, but all throughout college and beyond. To that end, we have had much success with our FYE program, not only in helping students with the transition to college, but also with retaining them at Lynchburg College. Additionally, the first year students have the opportunity to form close bonds with classmates beginning with Welcome Week in August and continuing throughout the year.

The First Year Experience program is committed to furthering the mission of Residence Life and Lynchburg College by developing a residential community that enables first year students to live and learn from each other; as well as, further develop their own unique qualities. FYE is dedicated to providing extra support and guidance to first year students. All students coming to Lynchburg College directly from high school (regardless of the amount of college credits) will be placed in Montgomery Hall or Tate Hall.

The First Year Experience housing is supported by multiple staff members. FYE staff members are trained specifically to aid in the transition to college, to engage students in their college experience, and to help students reach their full potential. There are 18 Resident Assistants (RAs) split between Montgomery Hall and Tate halls, who reside on the floors with the residents. There are also two live-in graduate student hall directors that reside within Montgomery Hall and Tate halls and are responsible for the supervision of their respective building staffs and provide assistance to students. In addition, there is a professional, full-time area coordinator for FYE who lives on campus and is available at any time to assist in situations as they arise.
