The English Department brings together successful writers and scholars committed to the study of language, literature, and writing. Graduates are prepared for a variety of professional and educational endeavors, including careers in:

English Department student opportunities include:
- English Club activities
- Tutoring in The Alton L. Wilmer Writing Center
- Working closely with faculty through independent study and internships
- Publication of creative writing in the Prism and expository prose in the Agora
- Editing experience with LC's professional literary journal, the James Dickey Review
- Induction into the English International Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta.
